School Disco to release final offering from upcoming album – ‘Victory Day’; OUT SEP 12TH.

Having supported the likes of Wolf Alice, Froth, Lime Garden and Frankie and the Witch Fingers, School Disco are back with a brand spanking new release ready to rock for the ages. Previously receiving support from BBC introducing, CLUNK Magazine, Spotify and Amazing radio, the bands upwards trajectory is unstoppable, and their upcoming releases are only set to propel them further into indie rock fame.
School Disco are Rory Lethbridge (Guitar / Vocals), Elliot Standford (Guitar / Vocals / Keys), Laur Underwood (Bass), Harry Heyes (Drums) and Tim Girdler (Studio Bass).
Formed in 2016 in Brighton via Plymouth, the band take influence from the likes of Black Sabbath and CAN, while taking inspiration from sci-fi literature and HP Lovecraft alike.
Their latest offering comes in the form of the third track from their upcoming album. Titled ‘Victory Day’, the track explores reflections on how society as a whole tend to complain about situations in their life but never seem to take charge and change it. Originally written by guitarist Elliot for his project, the Stanford Family Band, it was quickly realised that the cut was more suited to School Disco with its heavy lines and societally charge lyrics.
Talking on the track, Rory notes: ”To me it’s kinda got a CSNY vibe to it. Like one of their rockier / Jammier tunes. It’s also a staple of the live set and we now have even retrofitted a new sludgy intro that isn’t on the record and we always play it with an extended outro.
One of the guitar solos on the record is also performed by our drummer Harry. He’s a monster all round musician and an insane guitar player. I think it’s my favourite solo on the LP. The production on it was really easier it was one of those tunes where you just push the faders up and it sounds pretty much how the final mix came out. ”
Slightly more pulled back than School Disco’s previous releases, the track features softer vocals and more recognisable guitar lines, but still keeps in the vein of their rock-infused discography. Feeling overtly more 80’s, ‘Victory Day’ takes its place as one of the most impressive, and stand-out tracks on the record.
‘Victory Day’ arrives after the success of their previous singles ‘Through Dimensions’, and ‘Feelings Coming’ which was picked up by BBC introducing, Radio 6 and Radio Reverb – just to name a few. ‘Victory Day’, is the third and final track to be released from their upcoming record ‘Denton Rock’.
”’Denton Rock’ is an album I’m super proud of, with a whole new line-up we really got into a groove playing new songs and reimagining old ones live. We booked out a studio in Manchester that our friends have and we managed to get down 90% of the album in 3 days. We all really hit a groove and it was such a fun creative process with everyone down to get experimental and use the studios as a big playground. Some songs we had mastered before the studio, and some songs we finished in the studio by playing around and jamming in a similar fashion to what we do live.
I also reached out to a few friends and guests that really elevate the album with their contributions – Eva Lunny on harp adds such depth and Brennan Harvey’s Alto Sax on Crying Beasts adds more for me than any guitar would. I feel we really took the DIY aesthetic that our first two albums have and elevated it further” – Rory
