Ruston Kelly unveils a new version of “The Weakness,” reinterpreted as an atmospheric duet with singer-songwriter Samia. A chance meeting in Nashville sparked a friendship between the two, and their mutual admiration inspired them to try their hand at collaborating on a new version of Kelly’s “The Weakness,” which is the title track of his acclaimed, recently released third studio album. Listen to the duo’s new version of “The Weakness” HERE or by clicking the image below.

“Samia brings that special infinity vibe,” said Kelly. “It’s like this familiar yet incredibly unique energy in everything I’ve heard her do. After hearing her sing, I became an instant fan. There wasn’t anyone other than her that I wanted to help me deconstruct ‘The Weakness’ and mold it into something new – something more haunting, and with a whole other emotional perspective. When we were in the studio, I found myself copying her interpretation of my phrasing, which added this cool synergy to us singing the song together.”

Writing in Rolling Stone, Jon Freeman noted, “’The Weakness’ is much more of a massive indie-rock anthem in the vein of Band of Horses than the quieter acoustic work on Kelly’s last album [Shape & Destory], building from a steady drumbeat into towering walls of electric guitar and cascading countermelodies, both sad and hopeful.” The New York Times’ Melena Ryzik proclaimed The Weakness Kelly’s “most assured and expansive” work, and as Spin’s Daniel Kohn observed, “On The Weakness, he takes the pain, lessons, and wisdom he’s gleaned and channels his struggles into a hopeful body of work. For a recovering addict with a broken heart, that was no small feat.”
