NewsAfter cancelled 70th birthday party, back on the road [finally!] for ‘Uncovered’ and much more
Steve Harley is absolutely delighted to be heading back out on the road, after the longest absence from the stage of his career due to Covid, for a series of dates across the country. As well as numerous high- profile slots at festivals, he will be touring venues either as the Steve Harley Acoustic Band or as the fully electric Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel. He will be performing material from his last album ‘Uncovered’ but also, of course, hits and deep cuts from his extraordinary song catalogue. MOJO magazine said simply, “Harley creates rock songs that are proud, lyrical and full of yearning”. Full tour dates follow, see also www.steveharley.com.
These shows truly cannot come soon enough for Steve, who was forced to cancel plans for a 70th birthday spectacular at Glasgow’s Armadillo last year; this is now rescheduled for 5 March 2022 and billed as “Steve’s 70th + 1 Birthday Special”. He said, “I’d been travelling for 47 years until the door was slammed. Without my roller-case packed, I hardly know who I am! We are all dead keen to get back on the road, doing what we love and what we can’t really live without.”
The ‘Uncovered’ album includes interpretations of nine painstakingly chosen songs created in many instances by peers and contemporaries of Steve, those with shared histories and some that he admired from afar. These are songs with heft and honesty that have always connected and resonated within him; this is material that he’s always wanted to perform and may even wish he’d written! Steve’s links with some of the songwriters go back to the very start of their careers: Bowie in Beckenham; Dylan throughout his early teens; Cat Stevens/Yusuf and Paul McCartney, both massive early influences… Added into the mix are two songs from Steve’s own incredible catalogue, reworked from the originals: ‘Love, Compared With You’ which now boasts a newly-composed third verse, plus ‘Only You’, played Live for several years, but recorded here for the first time.
Steve is one of the UK’s finest songwriters and performers and these shows are a great chance to once again enjoy him doing what he does best. Rod Stewart, who covered Steve’s song ‘A Friend For Life’, describes him as “One of the finest lyricists Britain has produced.” Steve has also been described as “A consummate performer at the top of his game”, and these shows will bear that out.

News‘Warriors of Love’, the first new album in a decade from Medicine Head, is released on 24 September via Living Room Records. Featuring ten brand new songs, this is a fresh and vibrant set of blues rock that makes it sound like founder John Fiddler and Medicine Head have never been away.
Of the album, John Fiddler says: “I consider everything I do to be a ‘labour of love’; and ‘Warriors of Love’ sits there happily within the whole trauma site. This work helped me to reclaim my life from extreme negative circumstances and every day I offer my heartfelt thanks to the gods of creativity and to all the people around the world, new and old, who care about what I do. Many thanks for the emotional rescue go to guest Heads Morgan Fisher, Dzal Martin, Belinda Campbell, Dave “Bucket” Colwell, Roy Shipston and Ben Dale.
John said, “Gimme some Truth”, and John said, “Give me Love”.
Medicine Head began life in 1968 when the founding core duo of singer and guitarist John Fiddler and harmonica player Peter Hope-Evans began performing in the Midlands. They quickly came to the attention of John Peel and – at the insistence of John Lennon – the DJ ended up signing the band to his own Dandelion Records. Eric Clapton and Pete Townshend were also early cheerleaders. Peel declared the band’s debut 1968 single ‘His Guiding Hand’ to be one of the classics of all time – and a copy featured in his legendary Record Box.
Medicine Head released three albums via Dandelion Records, with Hope-Evans leaving and returning to the fold during that time. The first album, 1970’s ‘New Bottles, Old Medicine’ featured ‘His Guiding Hand’ and was recorded in a two-hour session and Medicine Head toured with the DJ at many of Peel’s shows. The band followed that with the single ‘(And The) Pictures In The Sky’ and then a second album in 1971, ‘Heavy On The Drum’; produced by the Yardbirds’ Keith Relf. After their 1972 album, ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ [yes, before Pink Floyd), the band signed to Polydor.
Medicine Head then released ‘One & One Is One’, the single charted at No.3 in the charts and the album of the same name garnered them more fans. The following album ‘Thru’ A Five’ gave them more hits with “Rising Sun” and ‘Slip and Slide’. Soon after that the band became a duo again, releasing the fittingly titled album ‘Two Man Band’ in 1976. The following year, Peter Hope-Evans left for the final time, although John Fiddler (with Peter’s blessing), has continued to work, and to release records as Medicine Head – 2011’s ‘Fiddlersophical’ was the last before ‘Warriors of Love’.
It may be a decade since the last album, but John Fiddler has found his voice and his musical freedom once again. This is an artist and a band with pedigree and a story, and ‘Warriors of Love’ writes a worthy late chapter in the Medicine Head story.

Genesis: 1975 to 2021 – The Phil Collins Years follows Kingmaker’s previous book, the highly acclaimedGenesis: 1967 to 1975 – The Peter Gabriel Years. This brand new book is the definitive biography of one of the world’s greatest rock bands following the departure of Peter Gabriel.
It contains numerous exclusive interviews with band members and all of the important personalities who were part of the story of Genesis from 1975 onwards, including Ray Wilson who fronted the band for 1997’s Calling All Stations album and subsequent tour before the return of Phil Collins in 2007. The book covers the full story of the band from 1975 very extensively, taking readers through each album and tour. Additionally it features a number of previously unpublished photographs.
Greg Spawton comments: “We were delighted by the success of Genesis: 1967 to 1975 – The Peter Gabriel Years following its publication in May last year. The book received considerable praise from numerous quarters, including from Steve Hackett as well as the music press and Genesis fans, and is now on its second print run. Like its predecessor, Genesis: 1975 to 2021 – The Phil Collins Years contains a wealth of details about the balance of Genesis’s career, many of which may well be unknown even to the most ardent fans of the band.”

Al Ross & the Planets today announce the release of the group’s second album, Blue Crystal on 10 September 2021 on CD and download through Wienerworld. The album is available now for pre-order.
When the band entered the legendary Abbey Road Studios to commence recording in January 2020, they never guessed that a pandemic was about to turn their plans upside down. Members would soon be sidelined by the virus, travel around London became forbidden, and — when sessions did finally resume in May — there was a long list of safety measures.
The core lineup of Al Ross & the Planets on this album is Al Ross (lead vocals, bass), David Brammer (saxophone), Terry Mascall (drums), Alex Mungo (ex-Then Jerico, vocals), Julian Mungo (acoustic guitar), and Marc Rapson (piano, Hammond organ, keyboards, percussion).
As band members became unable to take part due to Covid (George E Well and Paul Miller were forced to bow out) Ross realized that he would need to hire session players to fill the gaps. He asked his longtime friend Lyndon Connah to play keyboards and assist with production. Connah’s extensive resume includes work with Level 42, George Michael, Squeeze, Joe Cocker, Thomas Dolby, Nik Kershaw, and Go West. Next, Anthony Broza at Wienerworld suggested blues guitarist Norman Beaker. A native of Manchester, Beaker has been involved with the British blues scene since the 1960s and has toured and/or recorded with Jack Bruce, Chris Farlowe, Van Morrison, Chuck Berry, and B.B. King, among many others. Additional musicians on Blue Crystal include Tansy Garrod (violin), Paul Jefferies (double bass), Jamie Masters (guitar), Holly Petrie (backing vocals), Jamie Wall (trumpet), Alex Ward (lead guitar), and the Sing Gospel Choir.
The wide array of talent involved in the collaboration yielded spectacular results. The warm and lustrous “Faith” is a radio-friendly standout, a love song caressed by piano and light samba rhythms. “All the Things We Started” shares a similar glow, featuring a soaring, emotive vocal by Ross. Bold and brass-driven, “Checking Out the Vibe” is a modern take on the bluesy classic rock strut of The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, and Dr. Feelgood. Alex Ward provides stinging guitar licks while David Brammer and Jamie Wall’s brass arrangement is straight out of the Muscle Shoals songbook. “Crossroads” and “In the Middle of the Night” venture into gospel territory, slowly building in intensity in a manner that recalls vintage sides on Apple Records, as well as more current artists like Primal Scream and Spiritualized. “Sweet Memories of You” has echoes of Pink Floyd as Petrie’s voice interplays with Brammer’s saxophone. “Blue Crystal” is another slow build with a melody worthy of Noel Gallagher. And finally, “Something Changed My Mind,” says farewell to a lover as Rapson’s Hammond organ adds charms to an uptempo country stroll.
The Abbey Road sessions were engineered by Lewis Jones and Andy Maxwell, with additional sessions at Echo Studios in Buckinghamshire engineered by Jamie Masters. The entire Blue Crystal album was mixed by Chris Bolster at Abbey Road. Bolster also mixed the previous The Planets One.
Each of Blue Crystal’s eight tracks were written by Ross and Mungo in collaboration with either Connah or Rapson. Gary Wonfor and Alex Grayson also share writing credit on “Something Changed My Mind.”
“Facing huge obstacles in a horrendous year — with two members getting Covid — we managed to produce a truly great album,” said Ross. “It was a great way to pass the hours rather than staying at home feeling depressed! We were able to create something positive out of 2020.”

LEE AARON – RADIO ON!
LABEL: METALVILLE RECORDS
RELEASE DATE: JULY 23rd 2021
It’s been a long time since it really felt like the sun was shining. The last year we’ve stumbled through gloom and fear under steel grey skies, with our friends and family kept at arm’s length. But now the clouds are starting to break and as the days get warmer, over the horizon comes Lee Aaron with an album of pure rock’n’roll sunshine. The Canadian siren is here with an album that is everything we need right now; a strength giving, heart lifting celebration of brighter days ahead and all those beautiful memories of summers past.
“Crank it up in a car, be exactly who you are, ‘cause everyone’s a rock ‘n’ roll star!” – Radio On!
Radio On! is an album for warm days, long nights and endless weekends. It’s the taste of cold beer and a jukebox full of your favourite songs; it’s the sass, strut and style that only great rock can give you. Every song for this album was written over a single magical weekend, just Lee and her band – drummer John Cody, bassist Dave Reimer, and guitarist Sean Kelly – tearing it up and loving every minute of it. The sweat and excitement, the energy and passion have transferred themselves perfectly to the fizzing grooves of tracks like ‘Cmon’ and ‘Soho Crawl’, bringing Radio On! to electric life. Speaking about that incredible weekend, lost in a creative rock whirlwind, Lee says…
“I had this crazy idea, that if we locked ourselves in a room for a couple days and the only agenda was to have FUN and tap into the influences that inspired us as teenagers, it would be interesting to see what happened. I think we even surprised ourselves!”
Lee Aaron has been delivering stunning albums for nearly four decades now, her career spanning heavy metal, melodic rock, jazz and blues. From the iconic Metal Queen to the multi-platinum Body Rock, the smooth warmth of Slick Chick to the breathtaking rock revival of Fire And Gasoline, one thing has never changed – the power and passion of Lee’s matchless voice. Remarkably she has never sounded better than on Radio On!, her depth, range and ability to transport listeners into the stories of her lyrics more potent than ever. Indeed, everything on this exhilarating record sounds superb, thanks in no small part to the mixing and mastering skills of Mike Fraser (AC/DC, Aerosmith, Van Halen)…
“Mike and I knew of each other, and had always wanted to work together; the timing was perfect this time around. He’s got incredible ears and we were looking for those huge, organic guitar tones and powerful but unaffected vocal sounds he gets. He really ‘got it’ and captured the real soul of the Lee Aaron sound.” – Lee Aaron
Radio On! will be released on June 18th through Metalville Records, continuing a successful partnership that began with 2018s Diamond Baby Blues. Make sure you’re ready for this one, because it’s no exaggeration to say that Radio On! is one of the highlights of Lee Aaron’s storied career. Summer’s coming and it’s time to rock!

NewsDeath metal band DEATH REICH will release their sophomore EP, “Death Camp”, on July 16th 2021 via Non Serviam Records.
On July 16th the band unleashes the first EP “Death Camp”. Its primitive intro evolves into a progressive verse that mutates into an aggressive chorus making it a fair representation of the new album.
EP Statement!
For the past three decades the members of Death Reich has been playing death metal in various constellations. We all share a great passion for the genre and that’s what keeps us moving forward as a band. We strive to create death metal that we want to listen to. Fast and aggressive with lyrics about the many faces of evil. The Death camp EP represents our take on death metal and what can be expected from us in the future. On this EP we also pay homage to one of the true origins of extreme music.
DEATH REICH Comments:
“‘Death Camp” was chosen as first EP because of the raw old-school energy mixed with some more modern heaviness. We felt the somewhat unorthodox mix worked well. There are also some horror elements to the music which goes together well with the titular demon the lyrics talks about”.
Death Reich was formed in 2018 by Jonas Blom (Sacramentum, Runemagick, ex Trident, ex Grief of Emerald, ex One man army and the undead quartet, ….) who at first played the guitar together with Marcus Fors (Voodus, ex Vornth) on drums and Robert Axelsson (Sacramentum, Grief of Emerald, ex One Man Army and the Undead Quartet) on bass. They later recruited Christer Bergqvist (Grief of Emerald, ex Sadistic Grimness, ex Auberon) on guitar and Johnny Lehto (Grief of Emerald, ex Decameron) on vocals.
Death Reich recorded a demo in 2018 with this setting that due to its unfulfilling result never saw the light of day. Marcus decided to quit the band shortly after this recording. The band had trouble finding a replacement, so Jonas took it upon himself to play the drums. The band initially played American old school Scott Burns era death metal but changed direction to faster, straight forward and more brutal Death metal and started writing and rehearsing new songs. A new guitar player was also needed and Robert Babic (ex-Brutal Division, Vulcanic) was recruited. Two new songs were recorded 2019 “We are you” and “Domination”. These songs can be found on YouTube but where never properly promoted.
In 2020 a new recording was made which is now being released through Non Serviam Records. The first official release from Death Reich will therefore be a three song EP called Death Camp. The EP includes the title track, a song called “Hunger” and a cover of Metallica’s classic song “Fight fire with fire“. A full-length album is in the final stages and will be released soon.
The EP will be available as digital HERE:

PARRILLA – FEMME FATALE: ENSNARED BY VENUS
LABEL: INDEPENDENT RELEASE
RELEASE DATE: JULY 30th 2021
There are treasures that catch our eye and snare our soul – a glitter of gold in the darkness, a cold gleam of starlight in a clouded night sky. The half seen beauty consumes us, while the surrounding gloom obscures the greater reality in enticing mystery; the claw and tooth, the labyrinthine complexities, the hidden hurts, the sustained damage leaving rusted hooks and broken edges. We lay our hearts at the feet of shattered deities; offer our love and blood like a vampiric transfusion. We take the disdainful blows till we match them wound for wound, till we are broken too. Till we are empty vessels, discarded disciples with no love left to give.
Ensnared by Venus is the first part of the Femme Fatale trilogy of EPs from Parrilla – an industrial metal force of nature, unafraid to detonate reckless sonic devices beneath the boundaries of the genre and dance amongst the wreckage. This fearless opening chapter of their ambitious new endeavour hammers into the dark heart of unbalanced, unhealthy relationships and drinks deep from a chalice of poisoned lust and misplaced love and loyalty. The pounding beats and steel shod riffs grind beneath the melodious vocals, dipped in despair and painted with heartbreak. Pain experienced and pain observed form a tempestuous lyrical cauldron, perfectly matched by the pulsing rhythms and aching melodies, delivered with the force of an iron fist. Ensnared By Venus is an intense listening experience and an enticing opening to an intimidating triptych of sounds.
Parrilla have quickly established a formidable reputation for themselves, both live and in the studio. Games, Braaains And A Headbanging Life hailed the ‘dark depths’ of their debut EP, Dancefloor Messiah and their Breed single brought haunting, dangerous layers to the Nirvana original. Live, Parrilla have stunned fans with the intensity of their performances, crossing swords with the likes of the thunderous Goat Monsoon and the “shamelessly obscene” Alien Vampires. But for all that has gone before, this is where the real Parrilla story starts – with Ensnared By Venus and the Femme Fatale trilogy. This is the sound of a band come of age, a band ready to take you to the brink and beyond. On July 30th, dare the wiles of Venus and follow Parrilla over the edge, into a world of twisted desire and desperate lust…

ABOUT GOO GOO DOLLS:
Formed in Buffalo, NY in 1986 by John Rzeznik and RobbyTakac, Goo Goo Dolls quietly broke records, contributed a string of staples to the American songbook, connected to millions of fans, and indelibly impacted popular music for three-plus decades. Beyond selling 12 million records worldwide, the group garnered four GRAMMY® Award nominations and seized a page in the history books by achieving 14 number one and Top 10 hits at Hot AC—“the most of any artist.” As a result, they hold the all-time radio record for “Most Top 10 Singles.” Among a string of hits, “Iris” clutched #1 on the Hot 100 for 18 straight weeks and would be named “#1 Top 40 Song of the Last 20 Years.” Thus far, A Boy Named Goo (1995) went double-platinum, Dizzy Up The Girl went quadruple-platinum, and Gutterflower (2002) and Let Love In (2006) both went gold as Something for the Rest of Us (2010) and Magnetic (2013) bowed in the Top 10 of the Billboard Top 200. 2016’s Boxes attracted the praise of People and Huffington Post as Noisey, Consequence of Sound, and more featured them.
